Feud in the Frozen Wood
Feud in the Frozen Wood is an adventure module that I wrote for Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition. It features a brief but complex narrative about two powerful entities in a quarrel over the forest in which they both reside. The forest is a non-linear environment that allows for player agency and a variety of experiences on each playthrough. The adventure functions standalone, but it can also easily slot into an existing campaign.
My work on the project consisted of narrative design, encounter design, and dungeon design. I also did the dungeon cartography, and I wrote all of the text with some contributions from an editor.
The narrative of the adventure is meant to challenge the expectations of the players, as they’re forced to side with one of the presented villains or risk making enemies with both villains. The combat encounters feature similar levels of challenge as the players contend with a variety of enemy types based on their chosen villain. Intel can also be acquired in the social encounters that can influence the player’s choice of villain. The adventure culminates in epic fashion, as the players either navigate a treacherous dungeon to face one of the villains in their lair or outsmart the other villain to find and confront them in their hiding place.
